Option Alpha pricing: Option Alpha cost per month, the three $0 broker plans, and what Option Alpha backtesting can actually test
Option Alpha sells one paid plan and gives the same plan away through three brokers. Pro costs $149 a month, or $99 a month on a $1,188 annual bill. TradeStation, Tradier and tastytrade customers can get it for $0 if they hold a qualifying balance and route every live trade through that broker. What no ranking review states is the scope of the backtester you are paying for: same-day and next-day options only, on seven symbols, over at most three years.

In short
Option Alpha has one paid plan, Pro, at $149 a month billed monthly or $99 a month billed annually, which is $1,188 a year against $1,788 paid monthly, a $600 difference. Three more plans cost $0 a month because a partner broker pays: TradeStation with a $10,000 maintained balance, Tradier with $5,000 funded and $3,000 maintained, and tastytrade with a $5,000 minimum balance. Every plan carries the same limits: 50 bots, a $100,000 allocation cap per bot, and unlimited backtesting. A full-featured 30-day trial needs no credit card. Two conditions matter more than the price. The platform is only for retail, non-professional investors as the NYSE defines them, so a registered adviser cannot buy it at any price. And the backtester runs 0DTE and next-day strategies on 1-minute data for SPY, QQQ, SPX, XSP, IWM, GLD and TLT with a test period of up to three years, so a 30 to 45 day covered call or iron condor cannot be backtested there at all.

Every Option Alpha plan, who it is really for, and the condition that decides it
One card per plan as Option Alpha shows them, plus an honest card for this site. The limitation line is the thing that decides whether the plan fits you, and on three of the four it has nothing to do with money.
| Tool | Best for | Price (September 22, 2026) | The honest limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Option Alpha Pro, billed monthly | Someone testing whether automated 0DTE trading suits them before committing to a year, or trading through a broker that has no sponsored plan | $149 a month | The most expensive way to hold the same product. Twelve months costs $1,788, which is $600 more than paying annually for identical features. |
| Option Alpha Pro, billed annually | An established options trader who has already run bots through a trial and wants to trade through more than one broker | $99 a month, $1,188 a year | Refundable only within 7 calendar days of an automatic renewal charge, so the window to change your mind is one week a year. |
| Option Alpha via TradeStation | An existing TradeStation customer with $10,000 or more in the account | $0 a month with a qualifying account | You must maintain a $10,000 aggregate balance and all live Option Alpha trading goes through TradeStation. Fall below and Option Alpha sends a notice asking you to top up or risk termination. |
| Option Alpha via Tradier | A smaller account that is happy to trade through Tradier | $0 a month with a qualifying account | You must fund at least $5,000 and keep $3,000 in cash or positions, and all live trading runs through Tradier. |
| Option Alpha via tastytrade | A tastytrade customer who already trades options there and wants automation on top | $0 a month with a qualifying account | $5,000 minimum balance and all live trading through tastytrade. The two review pages ranking next to Option Alpha for this search list only the TradeStation and Tradier plans and leave this one out. |
| AgentTrading (this site) | Someone whose options idea is a monthly covered call, cash-secured put or protective put on a stock or ETF, and who wants to see it across 2008, 2020 and 2022 before trading it | Analyst $49 a month, $39 a month billed yearly, bought online | We do not execute trades, run bots, connect to a broker or test intraday or 0DTE strategies. Our option premiums are modelled with Black and Scholes on each stock's realized volatility, not taken from a historical option chain, and every result says so. |

Option Alpha Pro, billed monthly
Someone testing whether automated 0DTE trading suits them before committing to a year, or trading through a broker that has no sponsored plan
Pro is the only plan that lets you trade through any of Option Alpha's supported brokers and the only one with no balance condition. You get 50 bots, a $100,000 allocation cap per bot, unlimited backtesting, and SmartPricing on order entry. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period, bots switch off automatically, and Option Alpha keeps your bot templates for 30 days if you want to come back. Monthly is sensible for the first two or three months after the trial, while you find out whether your bots behave live the way they did in the backtester. After that it is a $50 a month premium for flexibility.
Option Alpha Pro, billed annually
An established options trader who has already run bots through a trial and wants to trade through more than one broker
Identical features to monthly Pro at two-thirds of the cost. The annual bill renews on the anniversary of the first payment with the same payment method, so put the date in your calendar. The pricing page also carried a "Cyber Monday SAVE 72%" label in its navigation and the backtester page a "July 4th Sale" banner when we loaded them in September, so if a discount is on offer when you buy, confirm the price at checkout rather than trusting a banner.
Option Alpha via TradeStation
An existing TradeStation customer with $10,000 or more in the account
TradeStation's own promotion page describes it as "an Option Alpha Pro membership on us" and says orders sent through Option Alpha are commission-free for stocks, ETFs and options, with no assignment fees. The balance can be held in cash or positions, so money already invested counts. If you already hold $10,000 at TradeStation this is the best deal on the page. If you do not, compare the cost of moving your account against $1,188 a year.
Option Alpha via Tradier
A smaller account that is happy to trade through Tradier
The lowest capital bar of the three sponsored plans, because the maintenance level drops to $3,000 after the initial $5,000 deposit. Option Alpha states there is nothing to prepay or submit for reimbursement; the broker covers the subscription automatically while the integration stays connected. The same 50 bots and $100,000 per bot apply, so the free plan is not a cut-down version of Pro. It is Pro with a broker attached.
Option Alpha via tastytrade
A tastytrade customer who already trades options there and wants automation on top
For a tastytrade customer this pairs two tools that do different jobs. tastytrade's own Lookback tool backtests options structures across longer expirations, and Option Alpha automates same-day and next-day trades. We compare what Lookback can and cannot test in our tastytrade backtesting review.
AgentTrading (this site)
Someone whose options idea is a monthly covered call, cash-secured put or protective put on a stock or ETF, and who wants to see it across 2008, 2020 and 2022 before trading it
The two products overlap less than their categories suggest. Option Alpha is an automation platform with a same-day backtester on seven symbols and three years of real 1-minute quotes. We are a research bench: you describe the rule in plain English, and we run it on more than twenty years of split and dividend adjusted daily history, with monthly option cycles, the assumptions printed on the result, and an honest verdict against buy-and-hold. If your trade is a 0DTE SPX iron condor, Option Alpha is the right tool and we are not. If it is a covered call you plan to run for years, test it here first.

WHAT THE PRICE INCLUDES, AND WHAT IT LEAVES OUT
Option Alpha backtesting: what the backtester accepts before you pay $99 to $149 a month for it
Every row below is quoted or taken directly from Option Alpha's pricing page, its backtester page, its education pages or its documentation. The right-hand column is what each fact means for a buyer. The two review pages that rank next to Option Alpha for this search list the same Pro price and the same "unlimited backtesting" line, and neither says which strategies the backtester can take.
| Question a buyer asks | What Option Alpha states | Where it is stated | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| What does the paid plan cost? | Pro: "$99 /mo with annual billing or $149 monthly" | Pricing page | $1,188 a year paid up front or $1,788 a year paid monthly. Annual saves $600 but is refundable only within 7 calendar days of the renewal charge. |
| Is there a free plan? | Three plans at "$0 /mo with qualifying account", paid by TradeStation, Tradier or tastytrade | Pricing page and FAQ | Free only while you keep the balance and trade through that one broker. Outside those brokers, the trial is the only unpaid option. |
| Which strategies can I backtest? | "backtest 0DTE and next-day options strategies" | Backtester page and documentation | Same-day and next-day expirations only. Weekly, monthly and 30 to 60 day structures cannot be backtested on the platform. |
| Which symbols? | "In addition to SPY, QQQ, SPX, and XSP, Option Alpha supports 0DTE and next-day backtesting on IWM, GLD, and TLT" | 0DTE options education page | Seven index and ETF symbols. No single stocks, so no wheel or covered call on a name you own. |
| How much history? | "a test period of up to three years" on 1-minute data | Backtesting metrics documentation | Starts in late 2023. The 2022 bear market, the 2020 crash and 2008 are all outside the window. |
| How are fills modelled? | "The backtester uses the position's mid-price at the time of entry", with an optional slippage setting | Backtesting best practices documentation | Mid-price fills flatter a backtest. Option Alpha says so itself and lists eight reasons live bots diverge. Add slippage on every test. |
| Can a financial adviser use it? | "only intended for use by Retail, non-professional investors as defined by the NYSE"; the signup form asks you to confirm "I am a Non-Professional as defined by NYSE" | Pricing page FAQ and signup form | No. There is no professional tier to upgrade to, so the price for a registered firm is not $149, it is unavailable. |
| Can I trade from Canada? | "there are no active broker integrations that support Canadian traders" | Pricing page FAQ | Backtesting and paper trading only. The automation you would be paying for cannot reach a Canadian account. |
Plan prices, balance conditions, the non-professional rule, the refund and cancellation terms and the trial terms were read from optionalpha.com/pricing and optionalpha.com/backtester, rendered in a browser. The strategy scope, test period, entry-time grid and fill assumptions come from Option Alpha's documentation at docs.optionalpha.com, and the symbol list from its 0DTE options education page. TradeStation's side of the offer was read from its own Option Alpha promotion page. Option Alpha changes its offers, so confirm the current terms on its pricing page before you commit. WHAT YOU GET - OPTION ALPHA PRICING
Option Alpha pricing, run on the bench
One paid plan, two billing terms, $600 apart
Option Alpha sells a single paid plan. Pro is $149 billed monthly or $99 a month billed annually, which is $1,788 against $1,188 over a year. There is no Starter or Elite tier any more, whatever older reviews say, and no feature difference between monthly and annual. The only thing annual buys is the $600 saving, and the only thing it costs is flexibility: annual plans are refundable within 7 calendar days of an automatic renewal and not after.
The $0 plans are broker plans, not free plans
TradeStation, Tradier and tastytrade each pay for your Pro membership while you keep a qualifying balance: $10,000 at TradeStation, $5,000 funded and $3,000 maintained at Tradier, $5,000 at tastytrade. The balance can be held in cash or positions. The catch is routing. Every live trade has to go through the sponsoring broker, and adding a second broker means paying for Pro. Treat it as a broker choice first.
The backtester only takes 0DTE and next-day trades
Option Alpha's own documentation describes the backtester as a tool to test "0DTE and next-day options strategies" with "a test period of up to three years". That is a precise, capable tool for intraday index options and nothing else. A 45 DTE put spread, a monthly covered call or a wheel on one stock has no backtest on the platform, so "unlimited backtesting" means unlimited runs of one kind of strategy.
Seven symbols, three years, 1-minute data
Backtests run on SPY, QQQ, SPX and XSP, plus IWM, GLD and TLT, using 1-minute historical options data. Entry times can be set in 5-minute steps between 9:35 am and 3:55 pm Eastern. Three years reaches back to late 2023, so no 0DTE backtest on the platform includes the 2022 bear market, and none can, because the data window rolls forward.
Retail non-professionals only, with no tier above
The pricing FAQ says the platform is "only intended for use by Retail, non-professional investors as defined by the NYSE", and the signup form makes you tick "I am a Non-Professional as defined by NYSE". A registered adviser or anyone trading a firm's money fails that test. Unlike vendors that charge professionals more, Option Alpha has no professional price at all, which we cover alongside ten other vendors on our non-professional subscriber page.
Mid-price fills, stated by the vendor itself
Option Alpha documents that its backtester enters at the position's mid-price and that a live bot may fill differently or not at all. It offers a slippage setting that adds or subtracts a fixed amount per contract. On a 0DTE credit spread collecting a dollar or two, ten cents of slippage is a large share of the edge, so run every test with slippage switched on.
HOW IT WORKS - 4 STEPS
From a sentence to a stamped verdict
Write down the expiration you actually trade
This is the question that settles the whole Option Alpha decision. If your strategy opens and closes on the same day or the next, the backtester was built for it. If it holds for a week, a month or longer, the backtester cannot test it and you are paying for automation alone. Decide this before you compare a single price.
Check your eligibility before your budget
If you are registered with the SEC, FINRA or a state regulator, or you trade money that is not your own, you are probably not a non-professional under the NYSE definition, and Option Alpha states it is only for retail non-professional investors. There is no professional plan to buy, so stop here and look at tools that license firms.
Price the broker route against the paid plan
If you already hold $10,000 at TradeStation, or $5,000 at tastytrade or Tradier, the sponsored plan is Pro for nothing. If you would have to move an account to qualify, compare the hassle and the broker lock-in against $1,188 a year for annual Pro, which lets you trade through any supported broker.
Use the 30-day trial on the backtester first
The trial is full-featured and needs no credit card. Spend it running your exact strategy with slippage switched on, then paper trade the bot the backtest generates and compare the two. Option Alpha lists eight reasons live bots drift from backtests, so a week of paper results against the test is worth more than any review, this one included.
Test the long-horizon version of the idea somewhere with more history
Three years of data cannot show you how a short-premium strategy behaved in 2008, 2020 or 2022. If your idea also has a monthly form, a covered call or a cash-secured put on SPY for example, run that version on our trading strategy tester across more than twenty years of adjusted daily data. If it held up through those years, you know what you are automating.

On the same bench
The headline price is simple. What it buys is not, and the difference sits in two places the pricing page does not put side by side: who is allowed to hold an account, and what the backtester will accept as a strategy. Here is the full plan list as Option Alpha's own pricing page rendered it in a browser, with the conditions from its FAQ written into the same row so nothing has to be cross-referenced.
| Plan | Price | Who pays | Condition to keep it | Brokers you can trade through | Bots and allocation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pro, billed monthly | $149 a month ($1,788 a year) | You | None, cancel any time | Any supported broker | 50 bots, $100,000 per bot |
| Pro, billed annually | $99 a month ($1,188 a year) | You | Refundable only within 7 calendar days of an automatic renewal | Any supported broker | 50 bots, $100,000 per bot |
| TradeStation plan | $0 a month | TradeStation | $10,000 maintained in cash or positions | TradeStation only | 50 bots, $100,000 per bot |
| Tradier plan | $0 a month | Tradier | $5,000 funded, $3,000 maintained in cash or positions | Tradier only | 50 bots, $100,000 per bot |
| tastytrade plan | $0 a month | tastytrade | $5,000 minimum balance | tastytrade only | 50 bots, $100,000 per bot |
Read the last column and the plans look identical. Read the fifth and they are not. Option Alpha's FAQ says that if your membership is paid for by a broker, all of your Option Alpha trading has to go through that broker, and connecting a second one means buying Pro. So the $0 plans are a broker decision disguised as a software decision. If you already trade at tastytrade or TradeStation, that is close to free money. If you would open an account only to get the software, you are choosing a broker on the strength of a bot builder, and the balance can sit in cash or in positions, so the real cost is the lock-in rather than idle cash.
The backtester is the other half of the price. Option Alpha describes it as a tool to "backtest 0DTE and next-day options strategies" on 1-minute historical data, with "a test period of up to three years". Its education pages list the symbols: SPY, QQQ, SPX and XSP, plus IWM, GLD and TLT. Three years back from today starts in late 2023, which leaves out the 2022 bear market, the March 2020 crash and everything before it. For a same-day SPX iron condor that window is what the product is built for. For a monthly covered call, a 45-day put spread or a wheel on a single stock, there is no backtest to run. If that second kind of trade is what you have in mind, our covered call backtest runs monthly call-writing rules on more than twenty years of adjusted daily history, and the wider options backtesting page covers cash-secured puts and protective puts on the same bench.
QUESTIONS - ASKED AND ANSWERED
Option Alpha pricing: the common questions
How much does Option Alpha cost?
Option Alpha Pro costs $149 a month billed monthly, or $99 a month billed annually, which is $1,188 a year. Three sponsored plans cost $0 a month if you keep a qualifying balance at TradeStation ($10,000), Tradier ($5,000 funded, $3,000 maintained) or tastytrade ($5,000) and trade only through that broker. All plans include 50 bots, a $100,000 cap per bot and unlimited backtesting.
Is Option Alpha free?
Not on its own. There is a full-featured 30-day free trial that needs no credit card. After that, Option Alpha is free only through a sponsored plan, where TradeStation, Tradier or tastytrade pays for your Pro membership while you maintain a minimum balance and route all live trading through that broker. Otherwise the price is $99 to $149 a month.
Does Option Alpha have backtesting?
Yes, for same-day and next-day options only. Option Alpha's backtester tests 0DTE and next-day strategies using 1-minute historical options data over a test period of up to three years, on SPY, QQQ, SPX, XSP, IWM, GLD and TLT. You can compare up to four backtests and turn one into a bot. Longer-dated strategies such as a monthly covered call or a 45 DTE spread cannot be backtested on the platform.
How far back does Option Alpha backtesting data go?
Option Alpha's documentation gives a test period of up to three years, using 1-minute historical options data. Counted back from late 2026, that window starts in late 2023, so it excludes the 2022 bear market, the March 2020 crash and the 2008 crisis. For a strategy you plan to run for years, test a longer-horizon version on deeper daily history before you automate it.
Can financial advisors use Option Alpha?
No. Option Alpha states the platform is "only intended for use by Retail, non-professional investors as defined by the NYSE", and when asked whether it offers accounts for professional subscribers, its FAQ answers "Not at this time". Advisers registered with the SEC or a state regulator generally fall outside the NYSE non-professional definition, so there is no plan a registered firm can buy.
What is the Option Alpha refund policy?
Monthly plans can be cancelled at any time and stay active until the end of the billing period. Annual plans are refundable within 7 calendar days of an automatic renewal charge. When a cancellation takes effect, all bots switch off and Option Alpha keeps your account for 30 days so you can reactivate and restore bot templates. Open positions then have to be managed in your broker.
Does Option Alpha charge commissions?
No. Option Alpha is a software provider, not a broker, and says it earns revenue from subscriptions rather than order flow. Commissions are set by your broker. TradeStation states that orders it receives through Option Alpha are commission-free for stocks, ETFs and options with no assignment fees, and Option Alpha states orders sent to Tradier and TradeStation through its platform carry $0 commissions.
Is Option Alpha worth the price?
It is worth it if you trade 0DTE or next-day index options, want them automated without code, and already bank with a sponsoring broker, because then Pro costs nothing. It is poor value if your strategy lives in monthly expirations or single stocks, because the backtester cannot test those and you would be paying for automation alone. We go through who it suits in our Option Alpha review.
What is a good Option Alpha alternative for longer-dated options?
For a monthly covered call, cash-secured put or protective put on a stock or ETF, you need a backtester that works on longer expirations and deeper history. tastytrade's Lookback is free for its customers, ORATS is a paid options specialist, and AgentTrading's Analyst plan at $49 a month tests monthly option cycles on more than twenty years of adjusted daily data, with modelled premiums stated on every result.
