WHAT YOU GET - METASTOCK PRICING

MetaStock pricing, run on the bench

R/T from $100 a month

Or $1,080 a year, or $1,395 once. MetaStock R/T is the real-time version for day traders.

Data is a separate bill

R/T needs XENITH, $165 a month or $1,780 a year for North and South American data.

Exchange fees for real time

NYSE, Nasdaq Level 1 and NYSE American at $5.09 each. Without them the data runs about 20 minutes late.

D/C from $499 once

Or $74.95 a month with Daily Charts data bundled. The outright license is cheaper after the first year.

30-day trial on both

The money-back guarantee covers one-time licenses only, never subscriptions or data.

Backtesting is included

System Test is built in. It is Windows software and rules are written as formulas.

HOW IT WORKS - 4 STEPS

From a sentence to a stamped verdict

01

Pick the data speed you need

If you trade from daily charts, D/C is enough. If you trade intraday, you need R/T, XENITH and the exchange fees.

02

Price the whole setup

Add XENITH and three US exchanges to R/T, about $280 a month, before you compare it with a browser platform.

03

Run the 30-day trial first

Data payments are not refundable, so test on the trial before the first XENITH charge.

04

Test the rule before you buy the desk

If what you need is an answer to "does this rule work", type it into our trading strategy tester and compare it with buy and hold before you pay for a full trading desktop.

On the same bench

MetaStock publishes a full price guide at metastock.com/products/pricing, which renders in the browser. We read the rendered guide on October 6, 2026, together with the R/T and D/C product pages, the 30-day return policy and the trial page. Every figure below is quoted from those pages unless we say we computed it.

What you buyMonthlyYearlyOne-timeWhat it is for
MetaStock R/T software$100$1,080$1,395Intraday charts, scans, system tests and forecasting for day traders
XENITH North/South American data$165$1,780Not soldThe data R/T runs on, delayed about 20 minutes until exchange fees are paid
MetaStock D/C softwareBundle onlyBundle only$499The end-of-day and swing trader version
XENITH for Daily Charts data$39.95$429.95Not soldGlobal delayed data for D/C
MetaStock D/C plus Daily Charts bundle$74.95$809.95Not soldSoftware and data on one subscription

What MetaStock R/T really costs a US stock trader

The software price is the smaller half of the bill. MetaStock states that R/T "requires a MetaStock XENITH subscription to operate", and that the data "is delayed by approximately 20 minutes unless applicable exchange fees are paid". For US stocks that means three exchange lines from the same guide: New York Stock Exchange $5.09, Nasdaq Level 1 UTP $5.09 and NYSE American $5.09 a month. Add Options Price Reporting Authority at $5.36 if you trade options, and Chicago Mercantile Exchange at $150.61 if you trade futures.

Setup, US stocks in real timePer monthFirst yearSecond year
R/T and XENITH, both billed monthly, plus 3 exchanges$280.27$3,363.24$3,363.24
R/T and XENITH, both billed yearly, plus 3 exchanges$253.60$3,043.24$3,043.24
R/T bought once, XENITH yearly, plus 3 exchangesn/a$3,358.24$1,963.24

All three rows are our arithmetic from MetaStock's listed prices. Buying R/T outright costs $315 more than the yearly subscription in year one and $1,080 less every year after, so it pays back early in the second year if you keep using it. The data subscription never goes away on either route.

MetaStock D/C, one-time or bundled

D/C is the cheaper door. It "can be purchased for a one-time charge or subscribed to monthly or yearly", and it uses continuous delayed data, "often only 15 minutes, but can be more". Bought outright at $499 with Daily Charts at $429.95 a year, the first year is $928.95 and each later year $429.95. The bundle is $809.95 a year, so the bundle wins in year one by $119 and the outright license wins from year two by $380 a year. D/C runs without a Daily Charts subscription, but MetaStock then charges "a nominal $10 annual maintenance fee", and you have to bring your own data.

What the MetaStock trial and refund cover

MetaStock offers a 30-day trial of R/T and D/C. Its money-back guarantee is narrower than most reviews suggest: it covers "every non-subscription MetaStock retail product", and "does not apply to our subscription-based products or data" or to training. So a $1,395 R/T license can come back within 30 days of purchase, but a XENITH payment cannot. Run the trial before you pay for data.

Does MetaStock have backtesting?

Yes. MetaStock R/T and D/C both include a System Test power tool, and testing a rule written in MetaStock's formula language is one of the program's long-standing strengths. The limits are practical rather than missing features: it is Windows software (MetaStock lists Windows 11, 64-bit, and a minimum of a 12-core Core i7 or 8-core Ryzen 7 with 16 GB of RAM), it does not officially support Macs, and the rules are written as formulas. If you want to test a rule without a desktop install or formula syntax, type it in plain English into our trading strategy tester, which runs it on adjusted daily data with costs on every trade. If you are comparing chart-and-scan platforms on price, TC2000 pricing starts at $24.99 a month with a 30-day money-back guarantee, and TrendSpider pricing covers a browser platform with backtests built in. The formula-driven desktop alternative most MetaStock users also look at is on our AmiBroker alternative page.

Add-ons are a third line on the bill. MetaStock's guide lists third-party systems and training as one-time purchases from $99 to $10,000 and as subscriptions from $47 to $299 a month. None is needed to use the software. How these licences and subscriptions add up across the category is covered in how much stock analysis software costs.

QUESTIONS - ASKED AND ANSWERED

MetaStock pricing questions and answers

How much does MetaStock cost?

MetaStock R/T costs $100 a month, $1,080 a year or $1,395 once, plus XENITH data at $165 a month or $1,780 a year for the Americas. MetaStock D/C costs $499 once plus Daily Charts data at $39.95 a month, or $74.95 a month bundled. Real-time US quotes add about $15 a month in exchange fees.

How much is MetaStock per month?

For a US stock trader using R/T in real time, about $280 a month on monthly billing: $100 for the software, $165 for XENITH data and $15.27 for NYSE, Nasdaq and NYSE American. Billed yearly that falls to about $254 a month. The D/C bundle for end-of-day traders is $74.95 a month.

Is MetaStock a one-time purchase?

It can be. MetaStock R/T is $1,395 and MetaStock D/C is $499 as one-time purchases. The data is never one-time: R/T needs a XENITH subscription to operate, and D/C needs Daily Charts data or your own data plus a $10 annual maintenance fee.

What is the difference between MetaStock R/T and D/C?

R/T is the real-time version for day traders, with intraday charts and XENITH news and data. D/C is the end-of-day version for swing and position traders, on delayed Daily Charts data. Both include charting, explorations, system tests and forecasting tools.

Does MetaStock have a free trial?

Yes. MetaStock offers a 30-day trial of both R/T and D/C on its trial page. Use it before paying for data, because MetaStock's money-back guarantee does not apply to subscriptions or data.

Does MetaStock offer refunds?

Only on one-time purchases. MetaStock gives a 30-day money-back guarantee on non-subscription retail products, one per customer per product, but it "does not apply to our subscription-based products or data" or to training products.

Does MetaStock have backtesting?

Yes. Both R/T and D/C include a System Test tool that tests rules written in MetaStock's formula language. It runs as Windows desktop software, so a Mac user needs a Windows machine or an unsupported workaround.

Does MetaStock work on a Mac?

Not officially. MetaStock lists Windows 11 (64-bit) and states that it has not officially tested its software on a Mac, so support there is a reasonable effort only. A Mac install is still covered by the 30-day guarantee on one-time purchases.

Is MetaStock worth the money?

MetaStock is worth it for a Windows-based trader who will use its formula language, system tests and many indicators every week. It is poor value if you mainly want to check whether one rule has worked, because the full real-time setup costs about $3,000 a year with data.
