Portfolio123 pricing and Portfolio123 cost for every retail and Pro plan
Portfolio123 sells four plans on two price lists. Retail runs from $300 to $2,400 a year, and the Professional list charges two to three times as much. The plan names are a guide to price, not to features: the plan called Backtest cannot run a simulated strategy, and the Professional feature table is the same table as retail.

EVERY PRICE AND RULE, QUOTED FROM PORTFOLIO123
Portfolio123 pricing as Portfolio123 states it, and what it means for your bill
Every row is quoted from Portfolio123's plan pages or its Payment and Refund Policy. Where we computed a figure rather than read it, the row says so.
| Question a buyer asks | What Portfolio123 states | Where it is stated | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| How much is the cheapest plan? | Screener "$25/month", "$300 billed annually"; "$35/month" on monthly billing | Retail plans, price cards | $420 a year if you pay monthly (our arithmetic). |
| How much is Ultimate? | "$200/month", "$2,400 billed annually"; "$278/month" monthly | Retail plans, price cards | $3,336 a year on monthly billing (our arithmetic). |
| How much does annual billing save? | "Get 3 months free with annual billing, save up to 28%" | Retail plans, billing toggle | 28.1% to 28.6% on every plan, so the claim is accurate (our arithmetic). |
| Who counts as retail? | "For individual investors managing personal accounts under $5 million" | Plan chooser, Non-Professional card | Over $5 million of your own money moves you to the Pro list. |
| Who must buy Professional? | "For professionals, firms, educators, and research providers managing assets or publishing investment analysis" | Plan chooser, Professional card | A newsletter writer pays $1,000 a year for Screener, not $300. |
| What does Professional cost? | "$1,000", "$2,000", "$3,000" and "$6,000 billed annually"; $108 to $650 a month | Professional plans, price cards | 2 to 3.3 times the retail price of the same plan (our arithmetic). |
| What does Professional add? | Card: "Direct API & automation access", "Higher bandwidth for data mining", "Import your own data & factors" | Professional card and plan page | The published Features and Limits table is identical to retail, including API caps. |
| Does the Backtest plan simulate strategies? | "Live & Simulated Strategies" is a dash for Screener and Backtest | Features and Limits table | Strategy simulation starts at Portfolio, $1,500 a year. |
| How much history do I get? | "5 Years", "10 Years", "15 Years", "20 Years" of point-in-time stock history; ETF history "1999 to Today" on all plans | Features and Limits table | $60 to $120 per year of history on retail (our arithmetic). |
| Does Europe cost extra? | "Add a 2nd region for just 40% extra" | Retail plans, region toggle | $420 to $3,360 a year with both regions. |
| Is there a free trial? | Plan page: "30 days of Screener & Backtest access", "No credit card needed". Policy: "a single 21-day trial", "credit card are required", "a non-refundable charge for the Trial" | Plan page and Payment and Refund Policy | The two documents disagree; the plan page is the newer one. |
| Can I get a refund? | "Portfolio123 does not offer any refunds for memberships, add-ons or Designer Model subscriptions" | Payment and Refund Policy | Start monthly if unsure; cancelling only stops the renewal. |
| Can I downgrade? | "You will first need to cancel the higher membership subscription" | Payment and Refund Policy | An annual plan that is too big runs to the end of its term. |

On the same bench
Portfolio123 is a point-in-time stock screening, ranking and simulation platform aimed at investors who build rules from fundamentals. We rendered its plan pages on October 15, 2026, in a real browser, clicking through the retail and professional tracks, both billing toggles and both region options, and read its Payment and Refund Policy. Every price below is quoted from those pages. Where a figure is our arithmetic, we say so.
| Retail plan | Backtest history | Billed annually | Per month, annual | Billed monthly | Monthly billing over a year |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Screener | 5 years | $300 | $25 | $35 | $420 |
| Backtest | 10 years | $1,000 | $84 | $116 | $1,392 |
| Portfolio | 15 years | $1,500 | $125 | $174 | $2,088 |
| Ultimate | 20 years | $2,400 | $200 | $278 | $3,336 |
These are the Non-Professional prices for the US and Canada region. The last column is twelve monthly payments, our arithmetic. Portfolio123 says annual billing gets you "3 months free" and saves "up to 28%", and the numbers hold up: the saving is 28.1% to 28.6% on every plan, so monthly billing costs about 39% to 40% more over a year. Adding Europe and the UK as a second region costs "40% extra", which takes the annual prices to $420, $1,400, $2,100 and $3,360.
How much does Portfolio123 cost?
Portfolio123 costs $300 a year for Screener, $1,000 for Backtest, $1,500 for Portfolio and $2,400 for Ultimate on the retail track with annual billing, or $35, $116, $174 and $278 a month on monthly billing. The Professional track for the same four plans costs $1,000, $2,000, $3,000 and $6,000 a year. A free account stays free and includes 30 days of Screener and Backtest access.
Ultimate carried a special offer on the day we read the page: 25% off the first year on annual billing, which is $1,800 for year one by our arithmetic, or 50% off the first six months on monthly billing, shown as $139 a month. Six months at $139 and six at $278 come to $2,502, so even with the offer the monthly route costs $702 more in year one than the discounted annual one.
Does the Portfolio123 Backtest plan backtest strategies?
Not in the sense most buyers mean. In Portfolio123's own Features and Limits table, the row "Live & Simulated Strategies" is a dash for Screener and for Backtest, and a tick only from Portfolio upward. Simulated strategies are what Portfolio123 calls rules that "buy and sell stocks or ETFs according to rules that you set" and run in the past, which is the full portfolio backtest with entries, exits and rebalancing.
What the $1,000 Backtest plan does include is "Rolling Screen Backtests", which run a screen "every week or every four weeks for a certain holding period", plus custom ranking systems and ten years of point-in-time history. That is a real test of whether a screen has picked good stocks. It is not a test of a trading strategy with position limits, hedging or sizing. If that is what you want to run, the cheapest plan that does it is Portfolio at $1,500 a year, and variable position sizing, the optimizer and rolling tests of a simulation are on Ultimate only.
One more line in the same table is worth a question before you pay. "Book Strategies", described as combining "two or more simulations", is ticked on all four plans, including the two that cannot create a simulation. Ask what a book can hold on Screener or Backtest before you count it as a feature.
Portfolio123 Pro vs Non-Professional pricing
| Plan | Retail, annual | Professional, annual | Professional, monthly | Professional costs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Screener | $300 | $1,000 | $108 | 3.3 times retail |
| Backtest | $1,000 | $2,000 | $217 | 2 times retail |
| Portfolio | $1,500 | $3,000 | $325 | 2 times retail |
| Ultimate | $2,400 | $6,000 | $650 | 2.5 times retail |
The multiples are our arithmetic. The Professional card lists "Direct API & automation access", "Higher bandwidth for data mining" and "Import your own data & factors". The Features and Limits table under the Professional plans is, line for line, the same table as under the retail plans: the same 5, 10, 15 and 20 years, the same resource units (400, 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000), the same API caps (250, 500, 1,000 and 10,000 requests a month) and imported stock factors ticked on every plan in both. We compared the two rendered tables and they are identical. What the published table shows the Professional price buying is eligibility, plus "Initial Pro Support" with priority onboarding and consulting. Annual billing saves "up to 23%" on this track, against 28% on retail.
Who has to buy the Professional plan?
Portfolio123 splits its buyers before it shows a price. Non-Professional is "for individual investors managing personal accounts under $5 million". Professional is "for professionals, firms, educators, and research providers managing assets or publishing investment analysis". So there are three ways out of the retail list, and only one of them is a registration: managing anyone else's money, running more than $5 million of your own, or publishing analysis, which on that wording includes a paid newsletter. A newsletter writer on Screener pays $1,000 a year rather than $300. Our non-professional subscriber guide sets this out alongside the rules other vendors use, and Portfolio123 is the only one we have found that names a dollar threshold.
Is there a Portfolio123 free trial?
Two of Portfolio123's own documents describe two different trials. The plan page offers a free account, "Available Forever", with "30 days of Screener & Backtest access" and "No credit card needed". The Payment and Refund Policy, last updated February 24, 2023, describes "a single 21-day trial membership", says "an email verification and credit card are required", and states "there is a non-refundable charge for the Trial". The plan page is the newer document and is what a new account sees today. If a checkout ever asks for a card to start a trial, the policy is the one telling you that charge does not come back.
Can you get a refund from Portfolio123?
No. The policy says Portfolio123 "does not offer any refunds for memberships, add-ons or Designer Model subscriptions". You can cancel at any time, and the subscription runs to the end of its term while future renewals stop. Upgrades credit "the unused portion" toward the higher plan. A downgrade needs you to "first cancel the higher membership subscription", which, as we read it, means an annual subscriber who buys too much keeps that plan until the year ends. Start on monthly billing if you are not sure which plan you need, then switch to annual once you know.
What each Portfolio123 plan costs per year of backtest history
| Plan | Years of history | Retail, per year of history | Professional, per year of history |
|---|---|---|---|
| Screener | 5 | $60 | $200 |
| Backtest | 10 | $100 | $200 |
| Portfolio | 15 | $100 | $200 |
| Ultimate | 20 | $120 | $300 |
Annual price divided by years of point-in-time stock history, our arithmetic. On retail, each extra year of history costs more as you move up, so the volume discount runs backwards. The cheap plan also has a statistical cost. Bailey, Borwein, Lopez de Prado and Zhu showed in the Notices of the American Mathematical Society in 2014 that with five years of daily data, about 45 independent variations are enough to expect one with an in-sample Sharpe ratio of 1 and no real edge. A factor platform with 4,300 factors makes 45 variations an afternoon's work, so if you plan to iterate on rankings, five years is a short sample to judge them on.
Which Portfolio123 plan should you buy?
- Screener at $300 a year if you want to run point-in-time screens and use Portfolio123's expert ranking systems, and you accept a five-year look back.
- Backtest at $1,000 a year if you build your own ranking systems and want ten years of rolling screen tests. Do not buy it to simulate a trading strategy.
- Portfolio at $1,500 a year if you want simulated and live strategies, short and hedged strategies, or AI Factor, which carries its own usage fees for training and predictions.
- Ultimate at $2,400 a year if you need twenty years, position sizing, the optimizer (50 combinations) or more than 100 positions in a strategy.
For comparison, Stock Rover pricing runs from $348 to $1,788 a year and rations historical fundamentals the same way, and Zacks sells a desktop screener with a backtester as a lifetime licence, priced on our Zacks pricing page. The wider category is compared in stock screener with backtesting.
When a different tool is the better buy
Portfolio123 is built for ranking a universe of stocks on fundamentals and testing the ranking. If what you have is a rule for a ticker or an ETF, such as buying after a 20% drawdown or holding only while price is above its 200-day average, a factor platform is more machinery than the question needs. Type the rule in plain English into our trading strategy tester and it runs on split- and dividend-adjusted daily data, with costs on every trade, the trade list as CSV and a plain verdict against buy and hold. Starter is $288 a year with 10 years of data, and Analyst is $588 a year with 20+ years, which is the same depth Portfolio123 sells on Ultimate. For a mix of funds rather than one rule, see portfolio backtesting. Our limits are real: US stocks and ETFs, daily bars, no point-in-time factor library and no ranking systems, so a quant who ranks thousands of stocks on fundamentals should buy Portfolio123.
QUESTIONS - ASKED AND ANSWERED
Portfolio123 pricing questions and answers
How much does Portfolio123 cost?
Portfolio123 costs $300 a year for Screener, $1,000 for Backtest, $1,500 for Portfolio and $2,400 for Ultimate on retail plans billed annually. Billed monthly they are $35, $116, $174 and $278. Professional plans cost $1,000, $2,000, $3,000 and $6,000 a year. A second region adds 40%.
Is Portfolio123 free?
Portfolio123 has a free account that stays free, with 30 days of Screener and Backtest access, charts, watchlists, stock pages and paper accounts, and no credit card. After the 30 days, screening and backtesting need a paid plan starting at $300 a year.
Does Portfolio123 have a free trial?
The plan page offers 30 days of Screener and Backtest access on a free account with no credit card. The Payment and Refund Policy, last updated in February 2023, describes a 21-day trial that needs a card and carries a non-refundable charge. The plan page is the newer document.
What is the difference between Portfolio123 Backtest and Portfolio?
Backtest adds custom ranking systems and ten years of history to Screener, and tests screens with rolling screen backtests. Portfolio adds simulated and live strategies, short and hedged strategies and AI Factor, with fifteen years of history. If you want to simulate a strategy, Portfolio is the cheapest plan that does it.
What is Portfolio123 Professional?
Professional is the price list for professionals, firms, educators and research providers managing assets or publishing investment analysis. It costs $1,000 to $6,000 a year, two to 3.3 times retail. Its published feature table matches retail; the card adds API access, data-mining bandwidth, imported data and initial Pro support.
Do I qualify for Portfolio123 Non-Professional pricing?
You qualify if you are an individual investor managing personal accounts under $5 million and you do not manage assets for others or publish investment analysis. A registered adviser, a fund, an educator or a paid newsletter writer belongs on the Professional list.
Does Portfolio123 offer refunds?
No. Portfolio123's policy says it does not offer refunds for memberships, add-ons or Designer Model subscriptions. You can cancel at any time and keep access to the end of the term. Upgrades credit the unused portion; a downgrade requires cancelling the higher plan first.
Is Portfolio123 worth it?
For an investor who ranks stocks on fundamentals and wants to test rankings on point-in-time data, yes, and few tools match its factor library at $1,500 a year. It is poor value if you have one rule for one ticker, or if you buy the Backtest plan expecting strategy simulation.
What is a cheaper alternative to Portfolio123 for testing one rule?
If you want to test a rule on a US stock or ETF with daily bars, AgentTrading Starter is $288 a year with 10 years of data and Analyst is $588 a year with 20+ years. It does not rank a universe on fundamentals, so it replaces a single-rule test, not Portfolio123's factor work.
