StockCharts.com pricing plans and the StockCharts membership cost per service level

StockCharts sells three service levels, Basic at $19.95 a month, Extra at $29.95 and PRO at $49.95, and charges official real-time exchange data separately at $9.95 a month per country. Which level you need depends on how many scans, alerts and saved chart lists you run, and the licence matters as much as the price if you work in finance.

In short

StockCharts.com costs $19.95 a month for Basic, $29.95 for Extra and $49.95 for PRO. Paying yearly means you prepay 12 months and get the 13th free, which works out to $18.42, $27.65 and $46.11 a month by our arithmetic. Official real-time US data (NYSE and Nasdaq) is a separate $9.95 a month data plan, billed monthly even on a yearly membership and never refunded; every account already gets free BATS real-time US quotes. New accounts get one free month on Extra. No level includes strategy backtesting, and the licence is for personal, non-commercial use only.

WHAT YOU GET - STOCKCHARTS PRICING

StockCharts pricing, run on the bench

$19.95 to $49.95 a month

Basic, Extra and PRO service levels. Extra at $29.95 is the level StockCharts recommends and every trial starts on.

13th month free on yearly

Prepay 12 months and get one free, about 7.7% off. Smaller than the yearly discounts at TC2000 or Finviz.

$9.95 data plans on top

Strict refund rules

No refunds on monthly memberships; yearly refunds only if you cancel within 14 days. Decide during the free month.

Personal use only

The licence bars using the service to provide investment, financial analysis or advice services.

No backtesting on any level

Scans find today's setups. Whether a setup made money is a separate test.

HOW IT WORKS - 4 STEPS

From a sentence to a stamped verdict

01

Start the free month on Extra

Every trial begins on Extra. Count how many scans and alerts you actually use in the first two weeks.

02

Drop to Basic or move to PRO before day 30

The trial bills whichever level you last selected, and monthly charges are never refunded.

03

Add data plans only if you need official quotes

Free BATS real-time US data covers most charting. Each official data plan is $9.95 a month and non-refundable.

04

Test the setup before you trade it

Type the chart rule you found into our trading strategy tester and compare it with buy and hold over 20+ years.

On the same bench

StockCharts publishes its service levels and data plans on one pricing page, and its refund rules and licence on two separate support pages, so most pricing roundups quote the sticker and miss the rest. We read all three on October 9, 2026. Every figure below is quoted from them unless we say we computed it.

Service levelMonthly billingYearly billing, 13 months for the price of 12Effective monthly on yearlyScans and screensPrice alerts
Free account$0$0$0None savedNone
Basic$19.95$239.40$18.421 scan, 1 screen2, plus 1 advanced alert
Extra$29.95$359.40$27.65200 scans, 200 screens, 10 scheduled scans100, plus 100 advanced alerts
PRO$49.95$599.40$46.11500 scans, 500 screens, 25 scheduled scans500, plus 250 advanced alerts

StockCharts describes the yearly option this way: "you prepay for 12 months of service, and we'll give you the 13th month for free." That is a discount of one month in thirteen, about 7.7%, which is small next to the yearly discounts on other charting tools. TC2000 gives two months free on yearly billing and Finviz Elite costs $299.50 a year against $474 paid monthly. The yearly figures in the table are our arithmetic, twelve times the monthly price.

Which StockCharts plan do you need?

Most people who pay should buy Extra. StockCharts itself recommends Extra to newcomers because it "contains all of our key features, including technical scans and alerts", and the gap to Basic is large: Basic saves one chart list, one custom scan and three alerts in total, while Extra saves 250 chart lists of up to 1,000 charts each, 200 scans and 200 alerts. Basic is really a paid way to remove ads, save one list and draw bigger charts.

What a StockCharts membership really costs per year

The total is the service level plus any data plan. StockCharts puts it plainly: "the total cost of your StockCharts.com subscription is a combination of the cost of the Service Level and the cost of whichever combination of Data Plans you select." Data plans are always billed monthly, so a yearly member sees one charge a year for the membership and one charge every month for data.

SetupMonthly billing, per monthOver 13 months, monthly billingOver 13 months, yearly membership
Extra, free BATS data$29.95$389.35$359.40
Extra plus US real-time$39.90$518.70$488.75
PRO plus US real-time$59.90$778.70$728.75
PRO plus US, Canada and UK real-time$79.80$1,037.40$987.45

All figures in that table are our arithmetic from the listed prices, over 13 months so the yearly membership is compared on equal terms. On the most common setup, Extra with US real-time data, the yearly membership saves $29.95 over 13 months, exactly one month of Extra.

StockCharts refunds, trial and cancellation

The free trial is generous and the refund policy is strict, so the trial month is when you decide. Every new account starts a one-month trial on Extra, and you can switch level during it. If you do not cancel, StockCharts charges "another month of whichever service level you last selected." A cancelled trial bars another one for a year.

  • Monthly memberships: "For month-to-month memberships, we are unable to provide any refunds."
  • Yearly memberships: cancel "within 14 days and receive a refund for your remaining unused, whole months of service", with no refund for the first, partly used month.
  • No refunds on level upgrades or on memberships bought in a special discounted offer.
  • Data plans: "We do not provide refunds for our data plan subscriptions under any circumstances", because the exchange fees StockCharts pays are themselves non-refundable.
  • Renewal: the terms say each renewal is charged at "the subscription fee rate in effect at the time of such renewal", so a price change reaches you at your next renewal.

Can a financial adviser use StockCharts?

Not under the standard terms. The licence is "for your internal, non-commercial, personal use and for educational or informational purposes", and the next sentence goes further than any other vendor we have audited: you are "expressly prohibited from accessing or using any of the Services to provide services that relate to investment, brokerage, financial analysis, financial advice, or banking, or any other professional services relating to the analysis of financial or market data." We found no professional or commercial level on the pricing page. An RIA or a newsletter writer should get written permission from StockCharts before relying on it for client work. How 25 other research vendors treat professional users is on our non-professional subscriber page.

Does StockCharts have backtesting?

No. None of the three service levels lists a backtesting feature, and StockCharts has no strategy tester that reports trades, returns or drawdown. Users on its own scan forum describe the workaround: build a scan in the Advanced Scan Workbench and run it as of a past date, which returns the symbols that matched on that day. That is a list, not a test, and a saved chart still shows today's data rather than the day you picked.

That gap is the reason people pair StockCharts with something else. If you have a setup you trade from StockCharts, say a 50-day moving average cross or an RSI rule, type it in plain English into our trading strategy tester. It runs the rule on 20+ years of split- and dividend-adjusted daily data with a cost on every trade, then shows the drawdown and a plain verdict against buy and hold. Ready-made pages for the most common chart setups are moving average crossover backtest and RSI backtest. If you are weighing other charting subscriptions, every TC2000 plan is on TC2000 pricing and the Elite billing math is on Finviz pricing.

QUESTIONS - ASKED AND ANSWERED

StockCharts pricing questions and answers

How much does StockCharts cost?

StockCharts costs $19.95 a month for Basic, $29.95 for Extra and $49.95 for PRO. On yearly billing you prepay 12 months and get the 13th free. Official real-time exchange data is extra at $9.95 a month per country, and a free account with limited features costs nothing.

Is StockCharts worth the money?

For an investor who charts and scans every week, Extra at $29.95 a month is fair value: 200 scans, 200 alerts and 250 saved chart lists. Basic is weak value because it saves only one list and one scan. None of the levels tests whether a setup has made money, so pair it with a backtester if that matters to you.

What is the difference between StockCharts Basic, Extra and PRO?

Capacity and history. Basic saves 1 ChartList, 1 scan and 3 alerts. Extra saves 250 ChartLists, 200 scans, 10 scheduled scans and 200 alerts. PRO raises those to 500 ChartLists, 500 scans, 25 scheduled scans and 750 alerts, refreshes every 5 seconds instead of 15, and charts history back to 1900 rather than 1980.

Does StockCharts have a free trial?

Yes. New accounts get one free month, starting on the Extra level, and can switch level during it. If you do not cancel, StockCharts charges the level you last selected. Cancelling a trial means you cannot start another one for a year.

Does StockCharts give refunds?

Rarely. Monthly memberships are never refunded. A yearly membership cancelled within 14 days is refunded for the unused whole months, minus the first month. Upgrades, discounted offers and all data plans are not refundable. ACP plug-ins can be refunded within 10 days.

How much is StockCharts real-time data?

Every account gets free BATS real-time data for US stocks. Official real-time data for NYSE and Nasdaq is a $9.95 a month data plan, and Canada and UK plans are $9.95 each. Data plans are billed monthly even on a yearly membership, renew automatically and are never refunded.

Does StockCharts have backtesting?

No. No StockCharts service level includes a strategy backtester. You can run a scan as of a past date to see which symbols matched then, but it does not report trades, returns or drawdown. To test a chart rule over 20+ years of daily data, use a separate backtester such as our trading strategy tester.

Can I use StockCharts for my advisory business?

Not under the standard terms. StockCharts licenses the service for internal, non-commercial, personal use and expressly prohibits using it to provide investment, brokerage, financial analysis or financial advice services. We found no professional level on the pricing page, so ask StockCharts for written permission first.

Is StockCharts cheaper than TradingView or TC2000?

At the entry level it is about the same: StockCharts Basic is $19.95 a month and TC2000 Basic $24.99. The yearly discount is smaller at StockCharts, one month in thirteen against two months free at TC2000. Compare by the feature you need most, scans and alerts, rather than by the cheapest level.
