For most options traders Unusual Whales is the better buy on price: its Retail Basic plan is $50 a month or $504 a year for the real-time options tape, against $85 a month for Cheddar Flow Standard, and it has a free delayed tier to learn on. Cheddar Flow is the better buy if you want dark pool levels and gamma exposure in one simpler screen and will pay yearly, since Pro Annual at $891 includes all of it. Neither one backtests a strategy.

We read both pricing pages, their FAQs with every answer expanded, and Cheddar Flow's refund policy and terms of service on October 21, 2026 in a rendered browser. Quotes below come from those pages. Where a figure is our arithmetic, we say so. Every Cheddar Flow plan and term is laid out on our Cheddar Flow pricing page, and the full Unusual Whales tier breakdown is in our Unusual Whales review, so this post sticks to the choice between them.

Cheddar Flow vs Unusual Whales pricing

Unusual Whales Retail Pro$75$756 a year ($63 a month)Free tier only

Cheddar Flow Standard$85No annual optionOne 7-day trial
Cheddar Flow Pro$99$891 a year (shown as $75 a month)No trial

The $891 figure comes from Cheddar Flow's refund policy, which uses "Annual plan ($891)" as its example; the pricing card rounds it to "$75 /mo". On a twelve-month view the cheapest real-time option on either side is Unusual Whales Retail Basic at $504, and the cheapest Cheddar Flow choice for a full year is Pro Annual, not Standard, because twelve months of Standard come to $1,020.

Is Cheddar Flow cheaper than Unusual Whales?

No. At every comparable level Unusual Whales costs less. The entry plans are $50 against $85 a month. The plans with unlimited alerts and dashboards on Unusual Whales (Retail Pro, $756 a year) still cost $135 less than Cheddar Flow Pro Annual ($891), by our arithmetic. Only Unusual Whales Retail Max, at $1,224 a year, costs more than any Cheddar Flow plan, and it is sold for one feature, a 1-minute GEX Periscope with 1-minute CBOE updates.

Both are cheaper than the older flow services. FlowAlgo costs $1,188 a year on its annual plan and never refunds, as our FlowAlgo review sets out, and a year of BlackBoxStocks Options Plus, its first plan with dark pool data, is $758.40 on BlackBoxStocks pricing.

Price is not the whole bill, though. The question is which features you would actually pay for on each side, and that is where the two products split.

What each one includes at the entry price

Unusual Whales Retail Basic lists the full-tape real-time options flow feed "with unusual activity indicators and custom alerts", a real-time GEX heatmap for US tickers, SPX market maker exposure with 10-minute CBOE updates, its Mr. Whale AI analyst at basic usage, downloads of daily options and dark pool data, politician trade information, a stock and options screener, greeks and volatility dashboards, an options profit calculator, institutional and insider data, and limits of 25 custom alerts, 5 watchlists, 5 custom dashboards and 10 saved filters per feed. Retail Pro removes those limits.

Cheddar Flow Standard lists real-time order flow, advanced filters, unusual volume data, flow overview insights, on-demand historical data and Cheddar AI. Gamma exposure, dark pool orders, dark pool levels, a custom watchlist builder and AI power alerts are Pro only.

Each row is read from the plan cards as each vendor names the feature. "Not listed" means the card does not mention it; we did not test either product against the other on data accuracy or speed, and neither publishes a figure we could check.

Unusual Whales vs Cheddar Flow refund and trial terms

This is where Cheddar Flow is the friendlier vendor, if you read the right page. Unusual Whales answers "Do you offer refunds?" with "All sales are final", softened by one concession: "Picked the wrong product? Contact support within 7 days and we can swap you to another product on the same billing period." There is no trial on the dashboard plans; the free tier is the trial, with flow two trading days late, news 15 minutes late and alerts 30 minutes late.

Cheddar Flow's pricing FAQ says "All payments made are non-refundable and we do not offer pro-rated refunds." Its refund policy, updated April 2026, says otherwise: a self-service refund in the app "within 48 hours of the charge" for a post-trial charge, a monthly renewal or an annual purchase, and after that a prorated refund less "a late refund fee of 20% of the plan price" on annual plans or "a flat $30" on monthly Pro. The terms of service match the policy, not the FAQ. Vendors rewrite these pages without telling existing subscribers, and when you pay for two or three data services on auto-renewal it is worth having something watch the pricing and terms pages for changes instead of finding out at renewal.

Both auto-renew. Unusual Whales says cancelling takes two clicks from the account page and you keep access to the end of the paid period. Cheddar Flow puts cancellation under Profile, then Payment Info, and adds that confirming it is "the customer's responsibility".

Which is better for day trading options, Cheddar Flow or Unusual Whales?

For a day trader who wants the most data per dollar, Unusual Whales Retail Pro at $756 a year: the full tape, real-time GEX, unlimited alerts and dashboards, and a free tier to check the interface first. For a day trader who wants a smaller, cleaner screen focused on flow, dark pool levels and gamma exposure and is willing to commit for a year, Cheddar Flow Pro Annual at $891. The gap between those two is $135 a year, so the deciding factor should be which screen you can actually read fast at the open, and both let you find out cheaply: the Unusual Whales free tier and the Cheddar Flow Standard trial.

Two account rules matter for active traders. Cheddar Flow's terms auto-lock an account for at least 24 hours on simultaneous logins from multiple locations, so a desktop and a phone in two places can trip it. And both vendors limit retail plans to individual use: Unusual Whales points business and commercial users to its Startup, Kafka and Enterprise plans, and Cheddar Flow bans redistributing data to Discord, Slack or Twitter.

Unusual Whales vs Cheddar Flow for swing traders and investors

Real-time flow is a session tool. A swing trader holding for days or weeks gets most of the value from the daily data, and the Unusual Whales free tier, delayed two trading days, already shows where large positions were opened. If you want it live, Retail Basic at $504 a year is the cheapest real-time choice in this comparison. Cheddar Flow has no plan under $85 a month and no annual option on Standard, which makes it the more expensive way to look at flow occasionally.

A long-term investor should probably buy neither. A large call sweep says someone paid for exposure, not why, and many prints are hedges, spread legs or closing trades. Our Unusual Whales review goes into what a print does and does not tell you.

What neither one does

Neither tells you whether acting on flow has ever made money. Cheddar Flow's "on-demand historical data" lets you look up past prints; Unusual Whales lets you download daily options and dark pool data and sells an API it describes as good for building "your own custom dashboards, bots and backtests". In both cases the backtest is something you would have to build. We found no feature on either pricing page that runs a trading rule across past years and reports how it would have done after costs.

That is the job AgentTrading does. Describe a rule in plain English, for example buying a 30-day at-the-money call on a stock after a day of unusually high call volume and selling after ten days, or selling a monthly 30-delta covered call, and it runs across 20+ years of history with costs on every trade and returns a verdict of held up, mixed or underperformed against simply holding the stock. Options rules run on options backtesting on the Analyst plan at $99 a month, and stock rules start on Starter at $49 a month, both on our pricing page. It places no trades, connects to no broker and sells no flow. If you want raw chains to build your own test, historical options data compares what the chain vendors charge per year of history.

Unusual Whales gives more for less and has the better way to try it for free. Cheddar Flow is simpler, has the more forgiving written refund policy, and its Pro Annual plan is fair value once you know you will use it every day. Whichever you pick, test the rule you keep acting on before the subscription becomes the most expensive part of the trade.
